Hi! My name is James, and I make videos about anything and everything to do with coffee, occasionally food and sometimes business/entrepreneurship. I create how-tos, guides, reviews, vlogs, video essays and mini-documentary films. In the real world, I've started a few companies, I wrote "The World Atlas of Coffee" and "How To Make The Best Coffee At Home". I do a little advisory work for startups too.
If you want to get in touch, drop me a line but please read these two things first:
1. I don't do paid reviews. I have a Patreon that helps me buy the products I want to review to prevent bias (then I give them away!)
2. I get a lot of email, so sadly I can't help with queries about which equipment you should buy.

The KinGrinder P1: Why A Cheap Hand Grinder Has Me A Little Excited
I worry I was a bit harsh on the Hario grinder in this, as it got a lot of us started in our journey of coffee at home. I certainly don't regret selling them. I'm just excited to see changes happening at the lower end of the market.

The xBloom Review: Is Great Filter Coffee Easy Now?
Speaking of the Makita episode, that was the first video I saw on this channel. It was silly but well-produced and informative. I've been hooked on James' videos ever since then. I'm not really sure how this channel ended up in my feed. I hadn't really watched coffee-related videos before. I think Google heard my horrible blade grinder every morning and decided it was time for an intervention. Regardless, I am grateful for James' videos. He does an excellent job of finding value and quality in a wide range of price points, and his recommendations helped me greatly improve my coffee experience. I now use a Hario V60 and a Baratza Encore. It's a cheap setup, but it was a massive step up from what I used before.
Aaaaand its immediately sold out
Tastes very artificial and kind of yucky
You know....The stash suits him,....He looks like a Major in the Gaurds...
Could you brew it in the bripe before making it into instant?
Oh 'oso, come t'ha fatto a fa' uno sciacquone con la moka? Pare Americano!
*looks over at counter where I would store this grinder*
Hot boiling water and plastic is not a good idea! Really! 05/16/24
I want to see you brew a French press in a pressure pot
Like if you bring a French press to 5 bar does it make a more espresso like brew
The French Press has been around for decades, it works great and makes a delicious cup of coffee! 05/16/24
I got the PORLEX, which James suggested as the best low-end hand grinder in a video he made to help people choose a grinder. So, I wish he had compared against that one. But at 16:05 he said it "trounced something like the PORLEX". But will it _last_ ? I like the all-metal construction of the PORLEX, and the ceramic burr will pretty much last a lifetime without getting dull, for the amount of use it gets.
Brew Dairymore! Makes cappuccinos, also!
Good thing it's sold on Jeffrey Bezo's website or their page would have crashed after this video dropped
what about an alcohol extraction?
This seems really similar to the Hario Zebrang ZB-CMS-B. Did one copy the other? Or perhaps they use the same manufacturer for some parts?
33 dollars is cheap lmao
Wait, but what? Why would the average person need a vacuum cleaner that can detect particle size (even if it actually works)? Do some people have rubbish bins that separate waste based on particle size or something? Someone please enlighten me because all I can think of is the extra battery power needed to run the display while it's in use.
Ok, hear me out: sand would probably be reeaally good at conducting heat, it also would surround the bean completely, so, what about roasting in sand? I mean, you can then brew it with a paper filter so you're sure no sand gets to the cup.
There's also the option of a Bamix with the whisking disk, that can work reasonably well. Similar to steaming, the trick is to first whisk near the top to trap air in a coarse foam, and then gradually immerse it to make the foam finer. I also use a french press for whisking. I find the initial foam to be too dense and clearly separated from the liquid. It helps a bit if you stir it thoroughly with a long teaspoon. When combining with the coffee, I tend to pur on the spoon while mixing gently, to get the foam more coffee'd. But you might not want to take my word for it. I'm a barbarian who uses the same pre-ground supermarket coffee (though of the higher end) for french press and mokka alike.
James believes that the bimodal PSD of the cheaper hand grinders contributes to a lack of flavor and thin tasting brews... He can test this by screening out the large particles (boulders) using a wire mesh screen, weighing the fraction lost and grinding an extra amount of coffee beans to make up for this lost fraction and then comparing the brews. Alternatively, James could normalize the ground beans to account for the different fractions and then compare the results of a cup made from only the PSD of interest. This would allow James to see if the large micron sized ground beans are making a negative impact to the overall cup quality. Coffee bean particle size shootout using only the size range of interest.
Amazing 😍❤
2:21 "This seems to be symptomatic of something that gets me a little bit excited" Yes, the Britishness is strong in this one.
How about if you try with a sieve, which is not expensive to get out those fines, and get an even better cup of coffee
I'm out. I want to be plugged back into the Matrix please and enjoy shit coffee again. This is a step too far for me!
Could I use this for spices?
Is there an easy hand grinder that grinds enough for 8 to 12 cups of coffee at once? I am new to this. The ones that dominate Amazon's search results usually only do 25 to 30 grams.
You should try the k6 king grinder
current price is 50-60 Eur in Germany
this thing is going to from 33 to 80 bucks QUICK
I've never understood the revolt against decaf, why shouldn't I enjoy a tasty cup of coffee even though I don't need/want any caffeine?!
Wow, man can waffle.
I realized that I had a caffeine sensitivity and stopped drinking coffee and now I sleep like a teenager. Incredible quality of life change. But I LOVE coffee so much and treat myself to caffeine only early in the morning on the weekend. The rest of the week I drink decaf so I've been on an obsessive search for the best decaf.
Oh. I thought this was going to be about a pepper grinder.
For the coffee nerds. If you grind as horizontally as possible you can kind of slow feed the beans making a more even grind which results in better extractions. It will be longer but its worth it
I’m sorry there’s 30 clicks total but the grinder for pour over was 40 clicks?
Kingrinder is, of course, the more powerful older brother of Judgerinder.
Is it good for espresso?
I've been using a KINGrinder K2 for the last 4 months. I love the quality and the grind variability. After looking through CoffeeRUclips, I was almost convinced that I would never be able to make good drinks at home for less than thousands of dollars. After watching many hours of coffee RUclips and understanding what was important about dialing in, I would go to my local favorite cafe and order a flat white once a week and come home and make myself 3-4 more drinks to try and replicate their drink. I would say that after 2 weeks, I got the espresso right and that the milk frothing took me three weeks to get right. And now, armed with a KINGrinder K2, De'Longhi Stilosa EC260BK and a few budget accessories (tamper, distribution tool and good cups) I can make espresso drinks that are comparable to all the best shops in Dallas, TX and even impress my barista friends that work with big money industrial machines. I can make beautiful and delicious espresso drinks at home with a total spend of near $200. The KINGrinder K2 was the key to unlock my home scientist process to replicate the drinks from local cafes within about 5 grind attempts.
Has anyone used the Kitcoff hand grinder? Looks reasonably well constructed and only $20 on Amazon.
Can't really expect NON-milk to do milk things. Also, would have been nice to touch on the severity of the science behind wanting to cool down (which reduces pressure) in an espresso pull with the Brikka...
I put the IMS E&B Lab Competition filter and gasket in my Bialetti 2-cup. That kind of functions like an Aeropress filter and replaces the rubber ring with a food grade silicone ring. Have a lot of other moka pots in different sizes, but my Bialetti 2-cup with IMS E&B Competition filter seems to be the best combo for a good moka for one so far.
AliExpress has cornered the market
Made me happy: I bought 2 of these 6 months ago, and just hook it to my drill for both coffee and spices. Still works like a champ.
Interesting. *sips Nespresso*
Thanks for the video, great to hear a 33 usd grinder can even do a decent espresso. I got myself a Kingrinder K6 for 99 usd moreoless, it was on sale. I am pretty happy with it, it can do filter way better from my previous and espresso also, inclusive having a baratza 270, from time to time i rather use K6 instead of my baratza.
Does it fit Aeropress (Aeropress GO, even better?). Also, hopefully they don't make it more expensive after this video. I would like to get it for traveling.
😂this is a Chinese company; on the Chinese equivalent of Amazon, it's available for about 10.8 GBP
AIR FRY COFFEE
What do you feel about vibrating the coffee after extraction?
